Choose data for the way you travel.

Compare daily, total-data and unlimited plans. Estimate your trip’s data needs and understand hotspot sharing, speed reductions and reset rules.
Understand how your data is counted.
Two 5-day plans can work very differently. Check the data allowance, validity period and what happens when the allowance runs out.
Daily data
For example, 1 GB per day for 5 days gives you 1 GB in each reset period.
Check the reset time zone, rollover rules and whether excess use slows down or stops service. Reset is not necessarily at your local midnight.
Total data
For example, 5 GB over 5 days lets you use the whole 5 GB within the validity period.
Check whether data or validity expires first and whether top-ups are available. This is not 5 GB each day.
Unlimited
Data service continues according to the plan terms.
Check the fair usage policy (FUP), high-speed allowance, reduced speed and hotspot limits. Unlimited does not mean full speed throughout.
Estimate data for the way you travel.
Check your phone’s recent mobile data history and enter your usual daily usage. Video is added separately below. This is a planning estimate, not a measured or guaranteed allowance for any app.
Daily data per device = usual usage + (extra video minutes ÷ 60 × video rate). Multiply by devices and days, add a 20% planning buffer, then round up to one decimal place. The default is 5 days × 1 GB × 1 device, giving a 6 GB budget.
Netflix reference limits per device per hour: low 0.3 GB, medium 0.7 GB, HD 3 GB and 4K 7 GB. Avoid counting video twice.
Keep your data for the trip.
Use Wi-Fi to download offline maps, music and videos. Automatic video quality can increase with connection speed; adjust it before travelling.
Set photo backups, app updates and large file syncs to Wi-Fi only. When sharing with a laptop, check its updates and sync settings too.
Review app usage under Cellular/Mobile Service on iPhone or Data usage on Android. Align the phone’s reporting period with your trip. The provider’s records determine billing.
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Turn off data roaming on your home line and automatic data switching to reduce unintended home-line data use.
Frequently asked questions
How long does 1 GB last?
It depends on what you do. Netflix’s hourly limits differ greatly between low, medium, HD and 4K. Map caching, autoplay, uploads and app updates also affect usage, so one fixed duration cannot cover every app.
Will I still have slow internet after my data runs out?
Not always. Some plans reduce speed; others stop service or require a top-up. Check the product’s excess-use rules. Unlimited does not guarantee high speed throughout.
Can my family share one eSIM?
First check that the plan permits hotspot sharing and any restrictions. Everyone’s usage adds up, and the host phone must stay nearby and charged. Separate plans are more convenient when you split up.
