Set up your eSIM, one screen at a time.

Follow brand-specific eSIM setup steps and official screenshots. Learn QR code, same-phone and manual installation, plus mobile data settings after arrival.

Before installing, get these ready.

My phone supports eSIM and is not locked to a carrier.

I have a stable Wi-Fi or internet connection.

I have the QR code or manual installation details from my order.

I have checked the activation deadline and when plan validity starts.

Choose installation timing according to your plan.

Some plans start counting at installation or activation; others start on first connection to a supported network. Check your product and order instructions. Turning off an eSIM does not pause its validity.

Add eSIM and scan your order’s QR code

Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Add eSIM → Use QR Code

Open your order’s QR code on another device and scan it with the iPhone you are installing on. Follow Continue and finish adding the plan. You can also scan with the Camera app.

Use the QR code from your order to add the travel plan. You do not need to transfer your existing phone number.

Label this eSIM

Cellular Plan Labels → Travel, or a custom name

Use an easy-to-recognise label such as Travel or Japan Data to avoid selecting the wrong data line later. Keep your own label for the home line.

The official screen demonstrates labels only. A custom name does not change the purchased plan.

Select the data line after arrival

Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Cellular Data → travel eSIM

Once in a covered destination, enable the travel eSIM and select it for mobile data. Set Data Roaming for that eSIM according to your order.

Turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching and data roaming on the home line. Calls and texts on your home line may still incur carrier charges.

Open Connections

Settings → Connections

Connect to stable Wi-Fi and have your order’s QR code ready. Open Settings and tap Connections.

Connections → SIM manager

Find SIM manager in Connections. Here you can see existing SIMs and add a travel eSIM.

SIM manager → Add eSIM

Tap Add eSIM to choose an installation method. Wait for it to load and keep the connection active during download.

Scan QR code → follow the prompts to add the plan

Scan your order’s QR code and complete the download. At your destination, select the travel eSIM for mobile data in SIM manager and set roaming according to your order.

If scanning fails, look for Enter activation code and use the complete details in your order.

Set up an eSIM

Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM

Connect to Wi-Fi and open SIMs in Settings. You can keep your home SIM and add a separate travel eSIM.

Set up an eSIM → scan or enter details as prompted

Choose Set up an eSIM and use your order’s QR code or manual details as prompted. Stay connected during download.

Some versions show Download a SIM instead. Follow the official instructions and your phone’s prompts if the flow differs.

SIMs → travel eSIM → mobile data and roaming

In a covered destination, enable the travel eSIM for internet access. Follow your order’s roaming instructions and turn off home-line data roaming and automatic data switching.

If you still cannot connect, check validity, covered countries and the APN in your order before contacting support.

Is the QR code on this same phone?

On iOS 17.4 or later, touch and hold the carrier’s QR code in your default email app or browser, then choose Add eSIM. If your order includes an installation link, follow its prompts. Not every third-party email app supports QR detection.

On iPhone, choose Enter Details Manually during setup and enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order. On Samsung’s QR scanning screen, choose Enter activation code. Copy the complete details directly from the order.

Do not post QR codes, activation codes or full EID/IMEI numbers publicly. If recognition fails, display the QR code on another device and scan it with the phone you want to install it on.

After arrival, check your connection.

Enable the travel eSIM and select it for mobile data. Set its roaming according to your order. Turn off data roaming on your home line and automatic data switching.

Try opening a webpage in a covered destination. If there is no connection, check validity, APN and network selection, then try toggling airplane mode or restarting.

Keep the eSIM if you run into trouble.

Some QR codes and plans cannot be reinstalled. Do not delete the eSIM and rescan first. Send the error message and order number to support.

What if my screen looks different?

The iPhone screenshots are Apple’s official iOS 26 examples; Galaxy screenshots are Samsung’s official One UI 8.5 examples. Language, system and carrier differences can change labels or order. Search for eSIM in Settings and consult the official links below.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install before leaving Taiwan?

Check when activation and validity begin. If early installation is allowed, use a stable connection before departure. If installation starts the timer, plan accordingly. An Activating status before arrival does not necessarily mean installation failed.

Do I need to remove my original SIM?

You can usually keep it, but the number of active SIMs depends on your phone. Select the travel eSIM for mobile data and turn off data roaming on your home line. Calls and texts on the home line remain subject to your carrier’s charges.

Should I keep retrying if the code says used or cannot be added?

First check whether the eSIM is already installed. If unsure, keep the error screen and contact support. Do not delete existing profiles or try installing the same QR code on another phone.
